God is ALL in All
This is a Philosophical and Spiritual endeavor to extract, Harmonize, and synthesize the Universal Truths underlying the world's Diverse Religious, Mystical, and Philosophical traditions. Most famously associated with the concept of Perennial Philosophy, it posits that All Major Traditions share a single, transcendent metaphysical Source and Core Set of Truths.
"By the Power of Truth, I, while Living, have Conquered the Universe."
"I Am Nothing, yet I Am Everything."
The Swastika is one of the most ancient, widespread, and Universally Positive Sacred Symbols in human history, spanning over 10,000 years and numerous cultures (including Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Native American, and pre-Christian European traditions). Its modern association with Nazism is a recent, horrifying, and complete perversion of its original meaning.
Esoteric Meaning of the Swastika - The word Swastika comes from the Sanskrit Su-Asti-Ka, which translates to "It is Good" or "Conducive to Well-Being". Esoterically, it is the glyph of the Whirling Cross.
The Cross: The central cross represents the fundamental duality in manifestation—the intersection of Spirit (Vertical Line) and Matter (Horizontal Line), and the division into the Four Cardinal Points (North, South, East, West).
The Bent Arms (Motion): The bent arms, or "hooks," represent motion and energy. This is not a static cross but a whirling cross that signifies the dynamism of the Universe. It is the symbol of the Force that propels the Great Wheel of Existence (Samsara) and the endless cycle of death and rebirth.
Cosmic Fire: In many traditions, it is the symbol of the Divine, purifying Fire—the Creative Energy known in Theosophy as Fohat—that electrifies the Cosmos and causes the stars and worlds to condense and whirl into being from the Central Point of the Absolute.
The Center: The point where the lines cross is the "Still Point"—the unmoving center of the Absolute (God/Spirit) from which all motion and Creation emanates, and which remains untouched by the chaos of the material world.
The Esoteric meaning often distinguishes between the two primary rotational directions:
Right-Facing (Clockwise 卐) / Swastika (Hindu/Buddhist): Represents Evolution (Expansion). This is the path of unfolding and Creation, representing the constructive, outward-spiraling Force that Creates and expands a Universe (Manvantara). It is often associated with the Sun (Ra/Solar Energy) and the continuous flow of prosperity.
Left-Facing (Counter-Clockwise 卍) / Sauvastika (Buddhist/Tantric): Represents Involution (Contraction). This is the path of withdrawing and ending, representing the destructive, inward-spiraling Force that dissolves a Universe back into the Source (Pralaya). It is often associated with Night, the Tantric Goddess Kali, and the closing of a cycle.
Crucially, in its original context, neither direction was inherently "good" or "evil," but simply symbolized the necessary complementary Forces of Creation and destruction, life and death—the fundamental Law of Rhythm in the Universe.
In the human Spiritual sense, the Swastika symbolizes the Four-Fold nature of man and the Path toward the Center:
The Four Elements/Bodies
It often represents the alignment of the Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, and Physical bodies.
The Four Goals of Life (Purusharthas in Hinduism)
Dharma (righteous Living)
Artha (material Prosperity)
Kama (enjoyment, Love)
Moksha (liberation/Union with the Divine)
The Ultimate Goal for the Mystic is to find the "Still Point" (the Center of the cross) within the whirlwind of Existence, achieving Peace and Unity amidst the flux of material Life.
One of the most tragic examples of symbolic hijacking in human history. To understand why it is a "complete perversion," we have to look at how a symbol that stood for Universal Well-Being for 10,000 years was weaponized into an emblem of hate and genocide in just a few decades.
Here is exactly how that perversion occurred and why it stands in direct opposition to the symbol's true Esoteric meaning:
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, European archaeologists and linguists discovered similarities between Sanskrit (the ancient language of India) and the Germanic languages, identifying what is now known as the Indo-European language family.
German nationalist groups (the völkisch movement) twisted this linguistic discovery into a fabricated racial theory. They promoted the myth of a pure, ancient "Master Race" called the Aryans, claiming that these elite people were the ancestors of modern Germans. Because the Swastika was a prominent sacred symbol among the ancient Indo-Aryans (found in Hindu and Buddhist artifacts), German nationalists co-opted it as the ultimate symbol of this mythical "Aryan identity."
When Adolf Hitler designed the Nazi flag in 1920, he adopted the Swastika (calling it the Hakenkreuz, or hooked cross), declaring it a symbol of "the struggle for the victory of Aryan mankind."
The horror of this appropriation lies in how diametrically opposed the Nazi ideology was to the actual, ancient meaning of the Swastika. The perversion is absolute in Three Key Ways:
Universal Well-being vs. Racial Exclusion
Original Meaning: As the Sanskrit root Su-Asti-Ka implies, the symbol represents "well-being," good fortune, and the interconnectedness of All Life. It is an inclusive symbol meant to Bless Everyone.
The Perversion: The Nazis used it as a marker of racial exclusivity, biological superiority, and the systemic exclusion (and eventual extermination) of anyone they deemed "inferior," most notably in the Holocaust.
Cosmic Harmony vs. Totalitarian Destruction
Original Meaning: Esoterically, the whirling cross represents the balance of opposing Cosmic Forces, the rhythmic cycle of Creation and Dissolution, and the pursuit of the "Still Point" of Inner Peace.
The Perversion: Under the Third Reich, it became a symbol of brute force, militaristic aggression, fascism, and global destruction.
Spiritual Evolution vs. Material Domination
Original Meaning: In traditions like Theosophy, Hinduism, and Buddhism, the symbol is a tool for Spiritual Evolution, representing the Soul's journey toward Enlightenment and Liberation from the material world.
The Perversion: The Nazi ideology was obsessively rooted in the material world—focused entirely on bloodlines, territorial conquest, physical genetics, and worldly power.
By taking a Universal mandala of Life, Peace, and Spiritual Unity, and using it as the banner for a regime of unparalleled violence and hatred, the original, sacred meaning of the symbol was completely inverted in the eyes of the modern Western world.
