The Spiritual Hierarchy: The Masters of Wisdom
Based on the teachings of the Esoteric Philosophy
The Great White Lodge
Throughout the long history of Esoteric Spirituality, from the profound symbology of the ancients to the teachings of Hermeticism and modern Theosophy, there has always existed the concept of a Hidden, Guiding Hand behind Human Evolution. In The Ancient Wisdom, this is referred to as the "Brotherhood of great Spiritual Teachers." This body is traditionally known in esoteric philosophy as the Great White Lodge, or the Spiritual Hierarchy.
The Hierarchy is not a Supernatural or Angelic body in the Orthodox sense. It is composed of Individuals who have passed through the same Physical, Emotional, and Mental trials that ordinary humanity is currently experiencing. By Mastering the Laws of Nature and exhausting the requirements of Karma, they have conquered the Illusion of the Material World and Graduated from the Human Kingdom into the Spiritual Kingdom. Having achieved Liberation, these Elder Brothers have Voluntarily Chosen to remain associated with the earth to Assist in the Evolution of those still struggling on the path.
The Structure of the Hierarchy
The Spiritual Hierarchy is highly organized, working through specific departments and grades of Spiritual initiation to Oversee the Unfoldment of the planet.
Adepts (The Masters): An Adept is a Master of the Wisdom—a Being who has taken the Higher initiations and Achieved Complete Control over the Physical, Emotional, and Mental planes. They no longer need to reincarnate but may Choose to maintain a physical or etheric vehicle to Better Serve humanity.
The Chohans: Above the Masters are the Chohans (Lords). They oversee the Seven Great Rays of manifestation—the fundamental Cosmic Energies that Condition All Life and Form on Earth. Each Chohan is responsible for directing a specific type of Energy (such as Will, Love-Wisdom, or Active Intelligence) into the world to shape civilizations, arts, sciences, and philosophies.
The Great Triad: The Hierarchy is headed by Three Supreme Officials: the Manu, who guides the physical evolution and destiny of races; the Bodhisattva (often recognized as the World Teacher or the Christ principle), who Oversees the Spiritual and Religious Awakening of humanity; and the Mahachohan (Lord of Civilization), who directs the Minds of men, driving the cultural, scientific, and intellectual advancement of the world.
Guiding from the Subjective Planes
It is a common misconception that the Masters of Wisdom walk openly among the masses or operate as recognized political or religious leaders. In Truth, the Hierarchy works almost Entirely From the Subjective, or Mental, Planes of Existence. They guide the evolution of humanity by Creating Powerful Thought-Forms and broadcasting them into the Mental atmosphere of the planet. When a human being—whether a philosopher, scientist, artist, or dedicated aspirant—raises their own Consciousness Through Meditation, Pure Living, and Selfless Service, their Mind becomes Receptive to these Higher frequencies. The Masters drop the "seeds" of new philosophical concepts, scientific discoveries, and humanitarian ideals into these Receptive Minds. The human worker then translates these subjective impressions into objective realities on the physical plane.
The Law of Free Will and Non-Interference
A question naturally arises: If such a powerful and wise Hierarchy exists, why do they not intervene to stop wars, poverty, and human suffering?
The answer lies in the Absolute Inviolability of Human Free Will and the Law of Karma. The evolutionary purpose of humanity is to Develop Conscious, Self-Determined Godhood. If the Elder Brothers were to step in and forcefully solve humanity's problems, they would Rob Mankind of the Very Experiences Required for Spiritual Growth. Humanity must learn through the consequences of its own actions.
The Hierarchy may inspire, impress, and offer Spiritual Illumination, but they will never coerce, demand obedience, or interfere with the Free Choice of an Individual or a Nation. They stand as silent watchers and ready helpers. When humanity, through its own suffering and exhaustion of material desires, finally turns its Focus Inward Toward Esoteric Truth and Unity, the Masters are there to Illuminate the Path. They hold the door open, but Man Himself Must Choose to Walk Through It.
