However, for the initiated Student of the Ancient Wisdom, this literal interpretation is recognized as a deliberate veil. The true Alchemists were not rudimentary chemists; they were profound Mystics and Philosophers. The "metals" they sought to transmute were the base, unrefined qualities of the human Soul. The "laboratory" was the human body and Mind. The Creation of the Philosopher's Stone (the Lapis Philosophorum) is the Ultimate Achievement of Human Evolution: the complete, Conscious Unification of the mortal personality with the Immortal Divine Spirit.

 

I. The Geometry of the Stone: Squaring the Circle

 

The classic symbol of the Philosopher's Stone perfectly illustrates the metaphysical mechanics required to achieve it. It is a visual mathematical formula for the integration of the Macrocosm and the Microcosm, traditionally known as "Squaring the Circle."

 

The Outer Circle: Represents the Infinite, the Unmanifested Absolute, and the Macrocosmic Soul of the Universe (The ALL). It has No Beginning and No End.

 

The Triangle: Represents the tripartite nature of Existence—Spirit, Soul, and Body; or the alchemical principles of Mercury (Mind), Sulfur (Spirit), and Salt (Matter). It is the descent of the Divine Trinity into manifestation.
