GOD - The Infinite Unmanifest ALL

It was not, however, first, though it was pre-existing; but manifesting itself to itself from itself, it became the second (or dual). The Great Announcement: An Esoteric Commentary

 

To understand the profound declaration of Simon Magus in the Apophasis Megale, one must approach it through the lens of ancient Gnostic and Hermetic Cosmology. The quote unveils the mystery of how the Infinite Unmanifest - the Absolute, Unknowable, and Singular Source of ALL Existence - transitions into the manifested Universe. In the primordial state, the Parent or Father existed in absolute solitude and perfect Unity. There was no division, no form, and no creation. Yet, contained within this boundless, Unmanifested Power was the latent potential for ALL Thought and Creation.

 

Simon Magus explains that Creation begins not as an external act, but as an internal reflection. The singular, preexisting Parent manifested itself to itself. By gazing inward, the Supreme Consciousness brought forth its own Inherent capacity to THINK. This movement from latent potential to active Realization gave birth to the first duality. The original Unity divided into two inseparable aspects: Potency, which is the Divine masculine Principle of Mind or the Father; and Thought, which is the Divine feminine Principle or the Mother.

 

This emanation of Thought did not separate from the Father, but rather stood before Him, mirroring His Infinite Power. The passage beautifully describes this as the Thought seeing the Father and hiding Him within herself. She becomes the womb of Creation, the receptive vessel holding the active Divine Power. Therefore, Potency and Thought are male and female, yet they are fundamentally the same Essence. Potency is the active, projecting Principle from Above; while Thought is the receptive, conceiving Principle from Below. ("As Above, So Below" ~The Kybalion)

 

The result is the Divine androgyne, a twofold manifestation that remains essentially ONE. The masculine Mind and the feminine Thought are inseparable, eternally mirroring and completing each other. This concept perfectly parallels the Hermetic teaching of the Father-Mother Mind and the profound Truth that the Universe is Mental. Simon Magus reveals that the root of all Existence is a singular Consciousness experiencing itself through the interplay of its own Inherent duality, setting the foundation for ALL subsequent Creation within the Cosmos.
