God is ALL in All
This is a Philosophical and Spiritual endeavor to extract, Harmonize, and synthesize the Universal Truths underlying the world's Diverse Religious, Mystical, and Philosophical traditions. Most famously associated with the concept of Perennial Philosophy, it posits that All Major Traditions share a single, transcendent metaphysical Source and Core Set of Truths.
"By the Power of Truth, I, while Living, have Conquered the Universe."
"I Am Nothing, yet I Am Everything."
The Eye of Horus is far more than a simple amulet; it is a mandala of Spiritual Reality, encompassing Cosmic balance, the nature of Self-Awareness, and the path to wholeness.
The Myth: In the myth, the god Set tears out the left Eye of Horus (representing the Moon and feminine/intuitive energy), and the god Thoth (god of Wisdom, Magic, and the Moon) magically restores it to wholeness (Wadjet).
The Esoteric Meaning: This is an allegory for the human journey toward Spiritual Unity. The Eye that is lost and restored symbolizes the Higher Self or Atman that becomes obscured by the lower, material self (Set/chaos) but is ultimately restored to its perfection through the application of Wisdom (Thoth) and Sacrifice (Horus offering the Eye to his deceased father, Osiris, to revitalize him). It represents the regenerative power of the Logos (Divine Mind).
The structure of the Eye of Horus is traditionally divided into six parts, which are associated with the six senses and the ancient Egyptian fractional system.
The Eye of Horus: Fractions and Inner Senses
Right side [1/2 (Smell)]: The division of Spirit and matter, or the duality inherent in manifestation.
Pupil [1/4 (Sight)]: Vision (Inner Sight): The central point of Consciousness; the ability to perceive Reality directly, beyond illusion.
Eyebrow [1/8 (Thought)]: The Mind: The faculty of Higher reason, intent, and Conscious Will that directs the Spiritual journey.
Left side [1/16 (Hearing)]: Intuitive Perception: The ability to "hear" the Voice of the Soul or the Inner Silence of the Divine.
Curved tail [1/32 (Taste)]: The Flow of Life/Nourishment: The energetic quality of experience and the nourishment drawn from Spiritual Truth.
Teardrop [1/64 (Touch)]: Grounding & Action: The connection to the physical world; the application of Divine Knowledge through action.
The Missing Fraction: The fractions add up to 63/64. The final 1/64 is said to be the magic of Thoth - the unquantifiable, transcendent power of the Divine that completes the Whole.
It is the Realization that Perfection cannot be attained by merely summing the material parts; a Spark of the Divine is always required.
In many Esoteric traditions, the Eye of Horus is directly linked to the Third Eye or the Pineal Gland in the human brain.
Anatomical Correspondence: There are clear anatomical similarities between a cross-section of the brain showing the thalamus and pineal gland area, and the symbol of the Eye.
Symbolic Function: The Third Eye is the Center of Psychic and Spiritual Perception. It is the "Eye of the Soul" that, when opened through Spiritual discipline, allows the individual to perceive the noumenal world (True Reality) behind the phenomenal (material appearance). The Eye of Horus thus symbolizes the Awakening of the True Spiritual Consciousness within man.
The Eye of Horus, as a whole, is a powerful visual expression of the Hermetic maxim: "As Above, So Below." It suggests that the perfection, healing, and balance found in the Cosmos is also to be found and restored within the Consciousness of the individual.
The Eye of Ra is the Right Eye (associated with the Sun, Solar Energy, and the active principle). It is an extension of the Sun God Ra's power, acting as a fierce, independent, and All-Powerful Force to maintain Ma'at (Cosmic Order, Truth, Justice).
Solar Energy (Right Eye): The right side is typically associated with the Will, Action, Intellect (Active Mind), and the Masculine/Yang principle. It is the outward-manifesting aspect of Consciousness.
Symbol of Divine Wrath and Enforcement: The Eye of Ra is most famous for its role in mythology where it is sent out to punish rebellious or disobedient humanity, transforming into the lioness goddess Sekhmet (the fierce aspect) or the benevolent Hathor (the appeased, nurturing aspect).
The Esoteric Meaning: This symbolizes the purifying Fire of Spiritual discipline and the consequences of ignoring the Divine Law (Ma'at). It is the uncompromising Truth that burns away illusion and chaos (Isfet). It represents the energy required for Creation and destruction - the cycle of manifested existence.
The Eye of Ra is often depicted as the Uraeus (the rearing cobra) placed on the forehead of the gods and Pharaohs, directly correlating it to the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) and the Third Eye (Ajna).
The Uraeus: This symbol of the serpent rising up the staff or body signifies the awakened Kundalini or Serpent Fire - the essential Creative and transformative Energy at the base of the spine brought to the crown. It represents the Pharaoh's Divine Authority and his link to the Source of All Power (Ra).
The Esoteric Meaning: The Eye of Ra upon the forehead is the Gaze of the Awakened Self. It is the Power of the Higher Manas (Mind) acting in the world with unassailable authority and focused intent.
The most profound Esoteric understanding comes from seeing the two eyes together, as they represent the perfect balance of the cosmos:
Celestial Body: The Eye of Ra aligns with the Sun (Active, Daylight), while the Eye of Horus aligns with the Moon (Receptive, Night).
Energy: The Eye of Ra embodies Yang (Assertive, Outward-Moving) energy, whereas the Eye of Horus embodies Yin (Receptive, Inward-Reflecting) energy.
Spiritual Function: The Eye of Ra governs Authority, Power, Will, Vengeance, and Action; conversely, the Eye of Horus governs Intuition, Healing, Restoration, Wisdom, and Passive Sight.
Goal: The ultimate goal of the Eye of Ra is To Enforce Ma'at (Cosmic Order/Justice), while the goal of the Eye of Horus is To Restore Wholeness (Spiritual/Physical Integrity).
They are two sides of the same Divine Coin: You need the Solar Eye to actively maintain order and assert your Spiritual Will in the outer world, and you need the Lunar Eye to receive Intuitive Wisdom, heal the self, and reflect on the inner path.
The initiate Seeking Spiritual Mastery is charged with Mastering both: the fierce, active, Knowing Power of the Sun and the calm, restorative, Intuitive Wisdom of the Moon.
